2. Uses:

Sildenafil is used to treat high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension). It works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels in your lungs which allows the blood to flow more easily. Decreasing high blood pressure in the lungs allows your heart and lungs to work better and improves your ability to exercise.

1) Sexual dysfunction:
The primary indication of sildenafil is treatment of erectile dysfunction (inability to sustain a satisfactory erection to complete intercourse). Its use is now one of the standard treatment for erectile dysfunction, including for men with diabetes mellitus.

2) Pulmonary hypertension:
While sildenafil improves some markers of disease in people with pulmonary arterial hypertension, it does not appear to affect the risk of death or serious side effects as of 2014.

3) Antidepressant-associated sexual dysfunction:
Tentative evidence suggests that sildenafil may help men who experience antidepressant-induced erectile dysfunction.

4) Altitude sickness:
Sildenafil appears to improve some risk factors for high-altitude pulmonary edema but it is unclear whether or not it affects the rate of the condition itself.

4. Getting The Most from Your Treatment:

You and your partner will still need to engage in foreplay, just as you would if you were not taking a medicine for erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil will not cause an erection unless you are sexually aroused.

Do not drink large amounts of alcohol before you plan to take sildenafil. Drinking too much alcohol can reduce your ability to get an erection and this may prevent you from getting the maximum benefit from the tablets.
